Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has described women as ambassadors of change whose contributions are vital to driving social and economic progress.
He said women across the world are breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes, and fostering a more equitable and sustainable society.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Mrs. Patricia Obila, stated this on Saturday at the grand finale of the 2025 Ebonyi Women’s August Meeting, themed “Women Who Inspire Change,” held at the Christian Ecumenical Center, Abakaliki.

In her remarks, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, wife of the governor, thanked her husband for his continuous support to Ebonyi women and urged women to use their potential to inspire positive change in families and communities.
She noted that change does not only mean holding public office but also involves raising disciplined children, mentoring fellow women, building families anchored on love and respect, and lending a hand to the vulnerable.
She added that practicing honesty, standing against violence and injustice, and empowering one another were all part of the transformation expected of women.
Mrs. Nwifuru commended the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Felicia Nwamkpuma, for coordinating the programme, while also appreciating Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi for empowering women in Ebonyi North Senatorial District. She acknowledged the support of Mrs. Eunice Egwu and Mrs. Josephine Elechi, wives of former governors of the state.
Highlights of the event included the disbursement of wheelchairs to 10 persons with disabilities, a scholarship award to Miss Oluebube Uzochi, and lectures by resource persons on hygiene management, financial literacy, and wealth creation.
