President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, whose tenure was initially set to expire on August 31, 2025. The extension aims to enable Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives of the administration.

Key Objectives of the Extension:
- Modernization of Nigeria Customs Service: Enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of customs operations.
- Implementation of National Single Window Project: Streamline trade processes and reduce clearance times.
- Execution of AfCFTA Protocol: Fulfill Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement to boost intra-African trade.
Presidential Confidence
President Tinubu recognizes Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service, expressing confidence that the extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
The Presidency believes the extension will allow Adeniyi to drive crucial reforms forward, ultimately benefiting the nation’s economy and trade facilitation efforts.
