Emmanuel Awari – Jalingo
In a statement issued to Newsmen by the Special Assistance to the governor on Media and Digital Communication, Hon Emmanuel Bello said, “Gov Agbu Kefas is getting commendations from stakeholders. Youths leaders in the state are hailing the amicable settlement, calling it a milestone in the youth department of the state”.
Recalled that youths in the state were torn between two major rival associations under different leadership. While the former administration worked with the now disbanded Taraba Youth Council of Nigeria (TYCN) under the leadership of Hikon Atoshi, the Federal Government recognized NYCN led by Mr. Gara was relegated to the background.
“But in an unprecedented move, Gov Kefas set up a team to resolve the logjam to fuse the groups as one body.
The commissioner of Youth and Sports, Hon. Joseph Joshua, announced the two camps have finally agreed to work together.
“This brings to an end an 8 year rivalry that has threatened the unity of youths in the state.
“Consequently, Youth stakeholders have continued to express their opinions on the development, noting that Dr Kefas has demonstrated good will to empower the youths.
Meanwhile, some youths have said the new found unity will help the demography refocus for progress.
They note that the bad blood had affected young people’s development in the past and expressed optimism that the youth friendly governor can now work seamlessly with a much more united body.
